More buzz around Verlander and the Orioles, from Buster Olney…

Also, Morosi is putting the Cardinals and Marlins together as potential trade partners, tweeting, “Miami GM Kim Ng would like to add offense, and Marlins manager Skip Schumaker has close knowledge of STL’s available bats.”

Buster Only of ESPN is predicting a wild end to the trade deadline, with part of his tweet reading, “a barrage of starting pitcher deals completed today, maybe in the last couple of hours before the deadline, as desperation begins to factor in for buyers and sellers.”
Also, more on the Cardinals from Morosi, with part of his tweet saying, “Cardinals have been active in trade conversations last night and this morning. They’re willing to move multiple bats.”

Heyman reporting that the San Diego Padres are the “mystery team” in on Verlander.
He then adds…
No idea how likely it is that a deal could work with Padres. No word on if there’s any real progress in talks, or if Verlander might approve SD. Interesting though that Padres would even investigate this now. https://t.co/5INWQx77Lh

Another name to watch for the Padres? Eduardo Rodriguez from the Tigers, tweets Feinsand.
11:50 a.m. ET —
An interesting note from Joel Sherman in his New York Post article about Verlander … “Steve Cohen’s willingness to pay down the approximately $93 million that Verlander is owed going forward — if his 2025 $35 million option is triggered — would potentially put any contender into play.”

Could the Yankees really be sellers? Buster Olney seems to doubt it.
