Welcome to Saturday! As your weekend kicks into high gear, let’s take a look at some of the latest MLB news and notes, including the St. Louis Cardinals, New York Yankees, Los Angeles Dodgers and San Diego Padres.

St. Louis Cardinals news: Adam Wainwright is having big problems with two outs

Wainwright failed in his attempt to score his 199th career win on Friday night as the Colorado Rockies tagged him for seven runs and nine hits in 3.0 innings of work. Much of the damage inflicted on Wainwright by the Rockies came with two outs in the frame, with Colorado going 6-for-9 with two outs in his three innings of work (overall, Colorado was 8-for-23 with runners in scoring position on Friday). This season, opposing batters have a .446 average and .683 slugging percentage against Wainwright with two outs.

It’s been a season of frustration for the St. Louis Cardinals, including with Wainwright’s 7.81 ERA through his first 14 starts of the campaign.

MLB news: Los Angeles Dodgers-San Diego Padres ramped up a notch by Joe Kelly

Kelly has never been shy to let people know what he is thinking on the mound, including his now-famous “pouty face” made at Carlos Correa of the Houston Astros during the 2020 season.

That trend continued on Friday night at Petco Park as the Dodgers posted a come-from-behind win. Kelly’s target this time? San Diego’s Fernando Tatis Jr., who was the victim of a strikeout after a pair of inside pitches that were high and up in the strike zone. Kelly also had a NSFW message after registering the whiff.

The Dodgers and Padres have three games left in the series in San Diego, and it will be interesting to see if Kelly’s actions push the envelope between the two Southern California rivals.

MLB news: New York Yankees open to Luke Voit return?

With Luke Voit opting out of his minor league contract with the New York Mets and the Yankees placing Anthony Rizzo on the injured list with post-concussion symptoms, could Voit return to the Bronx, a place where he played from 2018-21?

When asked about the possibility of a reunion on Friday night, Yankees manager Aaron Boone, simply said, “We’ll see, we’ll see.”

With New York needing some offensive punch, don’t be surprised if a homecoming for Voit might actually happen.
