The 2023 MLB trade deadline has come and gone and the rosters are set for the rest of the regular season, and playoff pushes have begun. The Atlanta Braves still sit on top of our weekly MLB power rankings. However, the gap is closing ever so slowly between them the teams chasing them in both the American and National League’s.

This week, the top 5 remained the same, with the San Francisco Giants making a jump into the top 10, but the Baltimore Orioles are inching closer and closer to the Braves after acquiring Jack Flaherty at the deadline. In the middle 10, there have been some changes, thanks in large part to some post-deadline struggles. The Boston Red Sox have tumbled after losing four out of six on the West Coast, then being swept by the Toronto Blue Jays at home. The Seattle Mariners are making a charge up the AL West standings and Wild Card race after selling a bit at the deadline. They are still a team that can make a wild card run over the final seven weeks.

The Chicago Cubs make the jump out of the bottom third as they kept Marcus Stroman and Cody Bellinger at the deadline and are an MLB-best 16-7 since the All-Star Break, and the Los Angeles Angels are fading quickly after going all-in. Now that decision looks like it’s going to backfire on them. I understand it had to be done to appease Shohei Ohtani, but this could be a franchise-altering backfire.

Let’s crank up the first weekly power rankings since the trade deadline on August 1.

  1. Atlanta Braves (last week 1)
  2. Baltimore Orioles (last week 2)
  3. Los Angeles Dodgers (last week 3)
