If you’re one of the throngs of New York Yankees fans who were hoping to see a change at manager for the 2024 season, one MLB insider has some bad news for you.

New York Yankees rumors: Aaron Boone expected back as manager in 2024

In his Sunday column for USA Today, MLB insider Bob Nightengale penned that the Yankees “are expected to bring back manager Aaron Boone next season.” Nightengale adds that there was some debate about whether a change in the Yankees dugout was needed, but it appears that the decision has been made in the Bronx to keep things status quo.

The Yankees enter Sunday with a 78-76 mark and have an elimination number of two in the race for a Wild Card spot in the American League. New York has spent some time this season in the cellar of the AL East, but a recent collapse by the Boston Red Sox has sunk them past the Yankees in the division standings.

Boone’s job security has been a hot topic all season, as has been the case for a change at general manager with Brian Cashman on the hot seat as well. Much of the discussion around changes has centered on New York’s inability to reach the World Series for the first time since winning the Fall Classic in 2009. Last season, New York downed Cleveland in the AL Divisional Series, but was swept out of the postseason by eventual World Series winner Houston, with offensive ineptitude haunting the Yankees as they tried to find a way to rally against the Astros.

While Aaron Boone may return to start the 2024 season, it’s likely the rumors that have dogged him this season will continue to follow him in 2024 if the New York Yankees get off to a slow start.
