Uniform changes are a challenging aspect for professional teams to tackle. You have the "old school" fans who like the original looks, your "new age" fans who want a more fashionable look, fans who want something unique and wacky, and folks who just plain won't like anything.

Major League Baseball's concept for creating City Connect uniforms was to try to connect every fan of a hometown team. These uniforms were launched in 2001, and 29 teams have released them.

The New York Yankees and Athletics are the only teams without one. The Yankees are known for the traditional pinstripes and have not worn alternate uniforms, and the Athletics are in the process of relocating to Las Vegas.

What do the new MLB City Connect Jerseys look like?

Washington Nationals

The Nationals offer many highlights of Washington D.C. that hometown fans will appreciate. The W on the cap and patch on the sleeve outlines the Capitol building, with a cherry blossom on each side of the W. The tiled background on the patch is a nod to D.C.'s beautiful architecture, like the Capitol Rotunda.

The city's grid is highlighted in tones of American denim throughout the jersey. 2005 is on the jersey, the year the team moved to D.C., and the interlocking DC on the chest is a nod to the 2006-2010 team. The 3-D upgraded look resembles the 1956 Washington Senators' blocked W.

Houston Astros

The Astros' futuristic design pays homage to the city's contributions to space travel. The lunar-patterned pinstriping is a tribute to the history of the moon landing. Compared to other teams in the past, the design is pretty basic, though it's still a clean look with the "STROS" moniker on the chest plate.

San Francisco Giants

The Giants are paying tribute to the historic music scene in the Bay Area. The font style on the chest resembles a lava lamp, intended to give a flow to the visual style.

The purple hue bordering the letters honors Fillmore's stage lights, and posters hung in the Haight-Ashbury district. This area was made famous in the 1960s for its vibrant movie scene, the center of the counterculture movement, and Summer Love in 1967. The color is also a nod to the 1913-1917 New York Giants before the move to San Francisco.

Colorado Rockies

The Rockies are sporting a jersey that reminds us of a beautiful sunset over the Rocky Mountains. The design is a proper homage to Colorado. Whether you are a resident in Denver or just paying a visit, you'll spend time outdoors enjoying the state's gorgeous scenery. The mountains are also highlighted as the logo on the hats.

The Rockies players will be the first to wear a City Connect pullover-style jersey. We will get plenty of time to look at these jerseys as the team will debut them on April 18 against the Washington Nationals and every Friday home game for the rest of the season.

Chicago White Sox

Chicago sports fans can easily see the direction the White Sox took. Given the team's struggles the last few seasons, it's not a bad idea to delve into the historic Chicago Bulls franchise.

Both teams share the pinstripes and are the first to combine elements from an MLB and NBA team in their City Connect uniforms. The font on the chest is a tribute to the Bulls' current black statement uniforms and the White Sox's uniforms during the 1930s. The White Sox are the first MLB team to release two separate City Connect hats to wear with this uniform. This uniform will debut on May 2 and will be worn at all Friday games throughout the 2025 season.

Miami Marlins

The Marlins took an approach with their uniforms that connects their past, present, and future. The teal in the uniforms is a tribute to the inaugural 1993 team, as is the "Miami" font on the jersey when the team was the Florida Marlins. The pink represents the bright lights that paint an electric glow in the city's skyline.

The pinstripes throughout the uniform are a tribute to Miami's ever-evolving culture, and the team is the first to wear their area code (305) on the caps. The β€œADT” on the sleeve patch is an acknowledgement to the partnering company helping the Miami Marlins positively impact local small businesses and the community. Fans can see the uniforms being worn May 3 and at every home Saturday game throughout the rest of the season.

Arizona Diamondbacks

The Diamondbacks have kept the design of their original City Connect jersey, including the "Serpientes" font across the chest, but they have changed the color scheme. The purple is a shoutout to theΒ  1998 expansion team. The team wore purple until 2007, when they shifted to the Sedona red they still wear.

The franchise's lone World Series victory in 2001 is honored on the jersey's sleeve. The City Connect uniforms will debut on May 9 and be worn every Friday home game for the rest of the season.

We'll keep this space updates with future City Connect jersey announcements once they are made public for the 2025 season.
