Alex Rodriguez will take another step in his recovery process Thursday when he is set to resume baseball related activities at the Yankees’ minor league complex in Tampa.

Rodriguez has been out since July 7th with leg problems and the 36 year old was ultimately diagnosed with a slight tear in the meniscus of his right knee.

After a few days of consideration, Rodriguez opted for surgery to repair the injury which has caused him to miss an extended amount of time.  New York hopes the procedure and resulting stay on the disabled list will allow Rodriguez to return 100% healthy.

While the Yankees still haven’t set a date for Rodriguez to begin his minor league rehab assignment, the club is still anticipating a mid-August return for their slugger.

"“The idea is to start getting him doing some baseball stuff,” manager Joe Girardi said Sunday. “I think once he gets going, it shouldn’t take that long. It’s more just waiting for the knee to heal. I don’t think you’re talking about having to do a week of rehab games. I think once we get it, it’ll go pretty quickly.”"

Even with the injury, Rodriguez had managed a solid line of .295/.366/.485 on the year with 32 extra base hits and 52 RBI’s.

But it was believed that the tear was affecting Rodriguez’s power, and the Yankees felt that it would be better to sacrifice a few months of A-Rod in order to get back the player they know he can be for the postseason.
