The AL Central is just full of surprises today.

Earlier, the Cleveland Indians activated outfielder Shin-Soo Choo from the disabled list in a move that was expected to occur next week.  Choo joins Cleveland as they prepare for their series opener today against the Twins.

Not to be outdone, Minnesota has added slugger Justin Morneau from the DL in another unexpected twist.  The Twins placed outfielder Jason Repko on the 15 day disabled list to make room for the return of Morneau.

Out since early June, Morneau has been dealing with neck issues.  Originally, the former MVP was sidelined due to wrist problems on the 15th of June, but it was later discovered that Morneau had a pinched nerve in his neck.  Surgery was required at the end of the month, and Minnesota figured to be without Morneau for at least 6 weeks.

It was speculated that Morneau wouldn’t be back with the club until Monday at the earliest, but he’s progressed so well and had such a solid showing during his minor league rehab assignment that the Twins have decided to bring him back early.

Repko, who’s manned the outfield for the Twins this season, is dealing with left shoulder bursitis.  Before the injury the 30 year old only hit at a clip of .245/.287/.265 over 56 games with the Twins this season.
