In a minor move today, the Baltimore Orioles acquired Rich Rundles.  Rundles is a left-handed pitcher from the

Atlantic League.  He was pitching for the Lancaster Barnstormers.  Orioles beat writer Brittany Ghiroli reports that the Orioles will use Rundles at Triple-A Norfolk for now.

Rundles has pitched in two Major League seasons in his career.  In 2008 and 2009 he saw action with the Cleveland Indians.  In those two seasons, Rundles was a combined 0-0 with a 1.59 ERA in six innings pitched.  He was originally drafted by the Red Sox in the third round in 1999.

Rundles was 2-1 with a 3.02 ERA for the Barnstormers.  He has tossed 47 2/3 innings and struck out 40 batters against 11 walks.

At this point in his career, Rundles is a career minor leaguer.  he has spent parts of 12 seasons in the minor leagues including stints in the Red Sox system, the Expos/Nationals system, and the Indians system.  In his minor league career, Rundles is 57-67 with a 3.34 ERA.

At the end of last season, in which he pitched for St. Louis’ Triple-A affiliate in Memphis, Rundles was granted free agency and could not catch on with an affiliated minor league club.  He then signed with the Barnstormers of the Atlantic League, an independent league with no Major League affiliations.
