Yankees Send Jeter to DL

It’s now official.  We can all resume our normal lives.

The Yankees have placed shortstop Derek Jeter on the team’s 15 day disabled list with a strained calf.

I discussed earlier how New York’s schedule probably impacted the decision, as the Yankees will be playing at National League parks for two upcoming series.  The team would not be able to simply ‘hide’ Jeter as their DH.  Instead the team captain would be forced to play the field to stay in the lineup.

The 11 time All-Star was frustrated with the decision, pleading his case to no avail before the move was made official.

"“I guess the timing wasn’t very good. It’s a little bit frustrating. But even I wasn’t at this point I’d still be frustrated,” Jeter said. “I don’t like not to play. Whether it’s going for 3,000 hits or 100 hits it doesn’t make a difference to me. I’d rather be out there playing.”"

As expected, Eduardo Nunez will take over at short tonight and will likely see a majority of the starts in Jeter’s absence.  Ramiro Pena was called up to take Jeter’s roster spot.
