The Baltimore Orioles finally received some good news on second baseman Brian Roberts. Alright, so there’s been no timetable setup for Robert’s minor league rehab assignment, but at this point O’s fans will take what they can get.
Roberts met with Dr. Michael Collins, a concussion specialist out of Pittsburgh. Collins stated that the 33 year old is progressing and he is now able to increase his participation in baseball related activities.
Still fans shouldn’t be looking for him to join the Orioles in the near future. While Robert’s bouts of dizziness and headaches have lessened, they are still occurring.
The two time All-Star has been out since the middle of May with concussion related symptoms. Roberts began feeling woozy after sliding head first into 1st base during a contest against the Red Sox.
Originally, Baltimore hoped Roberts would only be required to miss the new 7 day concussion minimum, but he has yet to return to action for the O’s.
Every few weeks Roberts met with Collins, who continued to tell the Orioles that he was not showing enough progress to begin baseball related activities. It was determined in the middle of June that Roberts would not be back with the team until after the All-Star break.
Still, since there has been no timeframe set you’d have to figure Roberts could be out another month or so at least. He will certainly have to make a trip to the minors to regain his timing at the plate.
Wow, I thought this was supposed to be good news.
