Jose Reyes Removed with Stiff Hamstring

Mets shortstop Jose Reyes was pulled from Sunday’s game against the Braves after experiencing tightness in his left hamstring.  The stiffness is occurring in the same hamstring that sidelined Reyes for two weeks earlier this season.

Reyes was lifted in the second inning for pinch hitter Willie Harris.  Harris took the field at second base in the next frame, allowing Justin Turner to move to short in place of Reyes.

The 28 year old missed two weeks of action in early July after straining his left hammy while running the bases.  Reyes was later diagnosed with a Grade 1 strain and after trying to hide him on the bench, the Mets ultimately decided it best to place their shortstop on the disabled list to allow him an extended recovery period.

With his contract expiring after the season, Reyes has had a career year in 2011 with the Mets.  He leads the National League with a .336 batting average and all of the baseball with 16 triples.  Reyes is third in the majors in stolen bases (34), fourth in runs (80) and fifth in hits (144).

Reyes will have an MRI later today as the Mets try to determine the level of the damage and if their All-Star will be forced to miss another extended period of time.
