The Tigers have placed Carlos Guillen on the disabled list with a sore left wrist.  To replace Guillen, Detroit recalled Will Rhymes from Triple-A.

Guillen told reporters that the injury occurred a few days ago during a swing and he’s been experiencing  discomfort since.  The second baseman hopes to be off the DL in the minimum 15 days after allowing his wrist a chance to heal.

Guillen’s season debut for the Tigers just occurred in late July, as the 35 year old had been recovering from microfracture surgery performed on his left knee last season.

It’s been a struggle for Guillen since returning.  Over his 22 games with the Tigers, he’s only managed a line of .207/.247/.329 with 2 home runs and 11 RBI’s.  Before the injury, Guillen had only collected 3 hits in 32 August at bats, good for an OPS of .296 this month.

Rhymes started the year as the Tigers’ everyday second baseman, but was demoted in early May due to a lack of production.  He’s found much more success at the Triple-A level, hitting at a clip of .203/.373/.398 with 23 extra base hits and 47 runs scored.
