Eric Hosmer and Craig Kimbrel Named FanSided MLB Rookies of the Year

This morning FanSided MLB publicly announced our choices for American and National League Rookies of the Year. As you can tell from the title the awards went to the Royals Eric Hosmer and Craig Kimbrel of the Atlanta Braves.

Last year Kimbrel was dominating International League batters and got a 20.2 inning taste of the show. Meanwhile, Hosmer was tearing through the Carolina and Texas League. Prior to this season both players made Baseball America’s Top-100 prospect rankings, Kimbrel at #86 and Hosmer at #8. Both were also in their organizations Top-5 with Hosmer holding down the #1 spot among Kansas City’s loaded farm system. Based on their performances in 2010 and 2011, neither player winning the award in their respective leagues should come as much of a shock.

Now both have some virtual hardware for their mantels.

The articles, and full voting results for both awards can be found on our flagship and general baseball site, Call to the Pen (click here for the AL and here for the NL).

Seedlings to Stars was responsible for voting on the AL half of the awards. This is how we each voted:

  • My ballot had Hosmer first followed by Tampa Bay’s Desmond Jennings and Seattle’s Michael Pineda.
  • Nathaniel’s ballot had Pineda 1st and Hosmer 3rd with the A’s Jemile Weeks in between.
  • James followed an entirely different path with Jeremy Hellickson, Ivan Nova and Mark Trumbo making up his ballot in that order.
