The Los Angeles Angels have already had quite the offseason, but it appears the club may not be finished shopping just yet. Jon Paul Morosi of FOX Sports is reporting that the Angels would like to add one more reliever before Spring Training. However, the Angels are prepared to be selective, as Morosi added the club will only look to acquire another bullpen arm if the price is right.
All throughout the winter the Angels were tied to some of the market’s top relievers. For some time it looked as if Los Angeles would be the eventual landing spot for free agent closer Ryan Madson. Beyond Madson, the Angels were also tied to Francisco Cordero and Kerry Wood this offseason.
The Angels do have 24-year-old Jordan Walden who, in his first year as closer for the club, compiled 32 saves. Still, LA has reportedly been seeking a veteran presence they can insert into the back end of their bullpen in case Walden falters during his sophomore campaign.
The market for relievers has quickly dried up, but there are a few intriguing names remaining. It’s been reported that the Angels have an offer out to 34-year-old reliever Luis Ayala who posted a 2.09 ERA and 1.268 WHIP over his 56 innings pitched in 2011.
Los Angeles could also be in on free agent left-hander Hong-Chih Kuo. The 30-year-old experienced a rocky 2011 but has a career ERA and WHIP of 3.73 and 1.214 and saved 12 games for the Dodgers in 2010.
