Zack Greinke Chooses Agent Casey Close

Earlier last month Jim Bowden of ESPN reported that Milwaukee Brewers starting pitcher Zack Greinke was on the hunt for an agent.  Since dropping his representation last year, Greinke had been operating without an agent.  Now, as he’s set to hit the free agent market following the 2012 season, Bowden is reporting that Greinke has settled on an agent, Casey Close.

Greinke had been with Close’s former agency, CAA Sports, before deciding to proceed without an agent.  The right-hander, who’s in the final year of his contract, had said he was open to discussing an extension with the Brewers on his own.

With the season approaching, Greinke was reportedly on the hunt for an agent, and it appears as if he’s settled on Close.  Greinke joins a Close client list that includes Derek Jeter, Mark Teixeira, Ryan Howard, Alex Gordon and Michael Cuddyer.

After Matt Cain inked his $112.5 million deal with the San Francisco Giants, Greinke is poised to become one of the top free agent starters on the market next winter.  Many believe that Greinke could score a contract worth $100 million-plus in total value if he were to reach free agency.
