The question of who Arizona should or more likely will be able to trade is a tough one. With a lot of their more attractive players unavailable, such as pitcher Bronson Arroyo, shortstop Chris Owings and outfielder Mark Trumbo out on the disabled list and third baseman Eric Chavez now contemplating retirement, Arizona is going to have to looks at other players as possible trade bait.

1. Starting pitcher Brandon McCarthy hasn’t quite lived up to his potential in Arizona and may be attractive to the many teams in desperate need of pitching help. However McCarthy’s larger contract may make it tough for the Diamond backs to receive enough young talent in return. The receiving club would have to take on McCarthy’s salary.

2. Reliever Brad Ziegler could attract potential suitors, making only $4.5 million this season and $5.5 million in 2015. He’s been a solid addition to their bullpen since coming over alongside McCarthy from Oakland. Yet, with a career 2.39 ERA he might be a guy that Arizona may want to hold on to despite their lack of bargaining chips.

3. Infielder Martin Prado is reportedly drawing interest from teams, especially the Yankees. The Yankees have young talent that they would be willing to part with to get help at third base. This scenario could greatly help the Diamondbacks as they try to rebuild their team.

Even though the Diamondbacks are looking to be big sellers this year, they really don’t have a lot of players to trade mainly due to injury or high salaries that other teams will not be interested in taking on.
