The Biggest Needs

1. Starting Pitching

Madison Bumgarner and Tim Hudson have been holding down the front of the rotation, but moving beyond the number one and two spots in the rotation things get a little interesting. Ryan Vogelsong had been fairly decent this season and Matt Cain has just had absolute bad luck on the mound.  Despite having solid outings on the mound, Cain has had the worse luck with run support. Finally, Tim Lincecum has been decent at times, but there is still concern as whether he’ll be a starter down the stretch. The biggest need is addressing the back end of the rotation and finding someone who could fit in the third to five spot.

2. Second Base

Second base has been a bit of a revolving door this year and a little bit of an offensive hole for the Giants. With Marco Scutaro out on the 60 disabled list and Brandon Hicks struggling at the plate with an average of .166.  It has prompting Bochy to insert Ehire Adrianza or recent call up Joe Panik at the position, but is causing the Giants to look elsewhere for an option.

3. Outfield/Relief Pitching

The main focus of the Giants come the deadline is starting pitching and second base, but they could also be in the market for possibly an outfielder as Angel Pagan has again landed on the disabled list and some help in the bullpen, especially with Romo being removed as closer.  The injury to Pagan is definitely something that the club take note of when looking for an extra bat that can play some outfield as well. With relief pitching it will depend whether or not the Giants can find someone in house before looking elsewhere.
