Kenley Jansen underwent foot surgery in the offseason and didn’t make his season debut until May 15. He’s looked great in limited action since then, netting six saves in six opportunities. In six innings he has allowed only one hit and struck out 11. But some eyebrows were raised when a mystery health issue (apparently it may have been an altitude-related illness) kept him out of action on Wednesday night in Colorado. The Dodgers could view Soriano as a decent insurance policy should Jansen need to miss any time in the future.

Although the L.A. bullpen has nice a solid job (3.16 ERA) as a whole, Soriano would at least represent a likely upgrade over Chris Hatcher, who has surrendered 21 hits and 13 earned runs in 17 innings pitched.
