It’s always hard to put together a roster that gels while guys are at different stages of their careers, but that’s often what it takes to win it all. The Cubs were really young last year and still managed to reach the NLCS. After adding veterans like Ben Zobrist and John Lackey this offseason, they’re even better equipped to go deep in October.

These older guys have done it before and know what it takes. The young guys have what it takes. When the older guys instill values in the younger guys that make them realize their potential, that’s when special teams are born.

With the veteran leadership that Zobrist, Lackey, and returning backup catcher David Ross, this team is positioned well for the postseason. The man in charge of managing this cast of characters is another big reason why the Cubs will finally end the curse this season.
