They were runner-ups to the Cincinnati Reds in 2015. Arizona players stole a total of 132 bases to the Reds’ 134, a small difference. Leading the way for the Diamondbacks was center fielder A.J. Pollock, who successfully swiped 39 bases.

Arizona should cruise to this milestone for a couple of reasons. One of the most prominent being, they have a 6-foot-3, 225 lbs first baseman that does it all. Paul Goldschmidt is the x-factor here, as his 21 stolen bases in 2015 placed him second on the team and easily first in the league amongst his position mates.

Another reason for the prediciton is shortstop Jean Segura was acquired in a trade with the Brewers. In him, they have a capable runner who has stolen 89 bases over his last three seasons, including 44 in a breakout 2013 campaign. Arizona’s primary shortstop last year, Nick Ahmed, stole only four bases.

Other speedsters who will run often in 2016 include second baseman Chris Owings and right fielder David Peralta who combined for 25 steals in 2015. Even Yasmany Tomas, a husky player not known for being fleet of foot, managed to steal five bases last season despite registering only 426 plate appearances.
