After the press conference above, (his first as a Cub) Maddon bought everyone who was there a beer. That goes to show how happy Maddon is. While he does not buy everyone in attendance a beer at every press conference he participates in, he is still open and happy all the time. However, Maddon is not afraid to call an umpire out, or rip his arch rivals.

This attitude is a positive trait because it allows the fanbase to feel like they can connect with Maddon. That said, his energetic press conferences are not always a good thing.

When Joe Maddon does not like what an umpire said or did, he will explain calmly, yet with an intent to criticize after that game to the press. This has gotten him fined in the past, and is not good for his reputation around baseball because it gives off the impression that the Cubs are cocky and do not care about repercussions. That is not the case, but the manager speaks for the organization during the press conference.
