#4 Daniel Murphy

What has happened to Daniel Murphy? He has always been an underrated player that brought a lot to the Mets and now the Nationals. Only, he is no longer underrated or putting up the stats that Murphy has put up in his career.

While some hitters take longer to hit their stride than others, Murphy is in his age 31 season, the point he should be beginning to hit his prime then trend in the other direction. Instead Murphy has been an altogether new type of hitter hitting for both more power and average. It is very rare that both numbers increase in the same season especially for a hitter well over 30.

Nationals fans should enjoy the career year Murphy is having so far. He is hitting .348 and knocked 22 balls out of the park and has driven in 86. Those numbers are the type you get from the very best hitters in the game which is exactly what Murphy has done this season. He has been one of the very best hitters in the game. Whether he is the player he has been this season, or the player he has been in season’s past, he deserves to make this list.
