#5 A.J. Pierzynski

A.J. Pierzynski is a player that most fans love or love to hate. In his almost twenty year career he has made one impression or another on most all fans. He makes this list based on his career and past ability alone.

This year’s numbers for A.J. are ugly. He hasn’t been able to find anywhere near the form he had last year for the Braves when he hit .300 and did a great job handling a young pitching staff. Pierzynski taking a step back this season is not all that shocking. He is a thirty-nine year old catcher who has been at this for a very long time.

The length of his career alone isn’t what puts him on this list, however. It is his career numbers. He sits well over 2,000 hits and has a career .280 average. For a player at his position those are great offensive numbers. They are made all the more impressive when you think just how long he has been catching.

A.J. Pierzynski is on the way out both for the Atlanta Braves and maybe out of baseball altogether. He has had a great career regardless of what you think of his on the field behavior.
