Phillies Legend Lenny Dykstra Tries His Luck with Lena Dunham
Phillies legend Lenny Dykstra has given us all a reason to love Twitter once again.
During his playing days, Lenny Dykstra was a fan favorite for the Mets and Phillies. The scrappy center fielder was known for giving his all every time he was on the field, a hard nosed player who became an All Star through his effort and toughness. Those injuries led to a premature end to his career, as his time as a baseball player was done when Dykstra was just 33 years old. Overall, he finished with a solid .285/.375/.419 batting line with 285 steals, and led the National League twice in hits.
After his career, Dykstra remained in the news, albeit for the wrong reasons. He ran into financial and legal troubles, declaring bankruptcy and spending three years in prison. Free since 2015, Dykstra has been getting his life back together. And, it seems, has been using Twitter in an effort to get a date.

And here we have Dykstra trying to slide into Lena Dunham’s DM’s like he used to slide into second base. I mean, given Dunham’s blatant appreciation for baseball players, one can certainly understand why Dykstra would try his luck. Of course, she is probably looking for a young baseball player to hook up with, instead of the 54 year old Dykstra. However, as the saying goes, you miss 100% of the shots you don’t take. Maybe Nails can get pounded in a different way.
If nothing else, this encounter could be the basis of an episode for her show Girls. It is not hard to imagine one of the characters engaging in an online conversation with some former athlete who is trying to hook up with them. Art imitating life could well lead to high comedy.
Dykstra has also admitted that those tweets are his. While he does have people help him with his Twitter material, he alone is doing the pursuing. Naturally, he is planning on capitalizing off his latest bout of fame, although it is difficult to see what he could do to top this. And, as Dunham’s blog is called Lenny, there may have been a bit of subconscious attraction to the former Mets and Phillies star.

The best of luck to Lenny Dykstra in his pursuit of Lena Dunham. Their conversations are pure gold already.
