Detroit Tigers: Possible Jose Iglesias Trade Destinations
By Tim Boyle
Toronto Blue Jays
Troy Tulowitzki seems to have lost his Wonder Boy bat. Along with it, Tulowitzki’s health is questionable. If the Blue Jays are serious about competing, they are going to need a second starting shortstop on the roster. Is Iglesias the answer?

The Blue Jays had a middle infield consisting of Darwin Barney and Ryan Goins in 2017. This wasn’t the plan. Tulowitzki and second baseman Devon Travis each spent a long time on the disabled list. Blame the turf all you want. Tulowitzki and Travis are fragile and not players the Blue Jays can count on to take the field.
By adding Iglesias, the Blue Jays would improve upon the Barney/Goins duo. Iglesias is a better hitter than both of them. He could even benefit from playing at Rogers Centre and in other American League East ballparks more regularly. Since the Blue Jays did decide to extend Marco Estrada before the season concluded, one has to believe they are ready to win baseball games again in 2018.
The Blue Jays are only interested in short-term infielders at the moment. Prospects Vladimir Guerrero Jr. and Bo Bichette are on their way to the big leagues. It won’t be for at least another year until they suit up in Toronto, but they are coming. Iglesias could still stick around when they do arrive due to his youthfulness and the possibility that one or both finds a spot at another position.
Regardless of what the future holds, if the Tigers are selling Iglesias, the Blue Jays need to consider buying. Injuries wrecked them in 2017. Depth is the offseason priority.
