San Francisco Giants

Where do the San Francisco Giants start this offseason? Their two biggest needs are third base and left field. Based on this information, Castellanos looks like a pretty good fit.

The Giants do value defense and it’s the primary reason shortstop Brandon Crawford will stay in San Francisco well beyond his best years. I bet they would be willing to ignore Castellano’s one-dimensional play if it meant adding a guy with 25 home run potential. Power is a major need. Their 2017 home run champion was Brandon Belt and he only played in 104 games.

The Giants could choose to trade for Castellanos early in the offseason and see where the rest of the chips fall. If they are able to sign Mike Moustakas or add any other third baseman, Castellanos becomes the starting left fielder. If they end up with J.D. Martinez then Castellanos goes back to his naturally unnatural position at third base.

Detroit and San Francisco each lost 98 games in 2017 yet they are in completely different situations. The Giants are not selling for at least one more year. They are a team that should rebound very quickly. The first step is keeping Madison Bumgarner’s feet on the ground. The second is searching the trade market for the best fits available. Is Castellanos one of them?
