Dodgers Adrian Gonzalez Chooses to Stay Away During World Series
For most players, being a part of a World Series, even if they do not play, is an experience they never forget. However, Dodgers first baseman Adrian Gonzalez decided to forgo joining the team in the Fall Classic.
The 2017 campaign was a rough season for Dodgers first baseman Adrian Gonzalez. He started slowly before being placed on the disabled list with elbow soreness. During that time, top prospect Cody Bellinger took over at first, relegating Gonzalez to a backup role before his season ended due to a back injury. For the season, Gonzalez had a paltry .242/.287/.355 batting line, hitting only three homers in 71 games.
While Gonzalez would not be a part of the World Series roster, it was still expected he would be in the Dodgers dugout. After all, he is a fan favorite, and would earn a solid ovation when introduced before the game. Instead, Gonzalez opted to stay away from his teammates, and is serving as an analyst for SportsNet LA.

This is not the first time that Gonzalez has been missing during the postseason. In fact, he has opted to stay away for the entirety of October, a ghost in the locker room. There was even speculation that he had gone to Italy on vacation instead of staying around his teammates. It has been a strange story.
It is also odd that Gonzalez is not around to offer his expertise, particularly on some of the Astros pitchers. He does have 20 career at bats against Justin Verlander, the most of any player on the Dodgers not named Curtis Granderson. Even if Gonzalez was not a part of the roster, his knowledge could help the youngsters as they look to bring home the team’s first championship since 1988.

Adrian Gonzalez has left the Dodgers behind during the postseason. Even if he is not a part of the roster, this decision seems somewhat peculiar.
