LOS ANGELES, CA - OCTOBER 31: Yasiel Puig

Boston Red Sox trade rumors surface that the Los Angeles Dodgers turned down an offer involving Yasiel Puig.

Boston Red Sox trade rumors involving a possible trade to the Los Angeles Dodgers somehow flew under the radar. According to FanRag Sports:

Talks had fallen apart by the time the news had even leaked.

It’s no secret the Boston Red Sox are looking for a bit of thunder for their lineup, who are in desperate need of a power bat. Evidently, they had found their guy, but the Los Angeles Dodgers weren’t willing to “play ball.”

Yasiel Puig would be an excellent fit in Boston, who could use a bit of a jump start on the field and in the clubhouse, as well. Contrary to popular belief, Puig is a kind soul, but his flair often rubs people the wrong way.

When healthy and right mentally, he’s one of the best outfielders in all of MLB. Plus, the Dodgers have a plethora of outfielders and apparently are looking to unload Puig’s $9.2 million for 2018.

More from Call to the Pen

According to these Red Sox trade rumors, negotiations heated up with a deal that would have swapped Yasiel Puig for Jackie Bradley Jr. With these talks evidently stalling before getting too serious, who would have benefited from this potential trade if it went down?

Puig is coming off his most productive season since his 2014 All-Star campaign — .263/.346/.487 with 28 home runs and 74 RBI — where he approached 500 at-bats for the first time since that very year.

Bradley Jr.’s production dropped off drastically since 2016, where his batting average fell below .250, while his power numbers took a nose dove to go with it. Honestly, the Boston Red Sox missed a significant opportunity to upgrade their outfield and their home run total for 2018.

Meanwhile, the Los Angeles Dodgers “dodged” a bullet, where swapping Yasiel Puig for Jackie Bradley Jr. would have been a terrible mistake. Thank goodness for them that these Boston Red Sox trade rumors, well, stayed only rumors.
