The Baltimore Orioles outfielder Trey Mancini is projected to breakout in 2018 via Predator Baseball Projections.
Baltimore Orioles outfielder Trey Mancini finished third in the American League Rookie of the Year voting for 2017. Not too bad, especially considering the great years that Aaron Judge and Andrew Benintendi had.
His stats for 2017 season were remarkably comparable to other Baltimore Orioles rookie greats Cal Ripken Jr. and Eddie Murray, who actually won the award. Last season, Trey Mancini smashed 24 big flies and drove in a quality 78 runs.
He struck out quite a few times, however, with that being the norm of the Major Leagues these days, there is not much to worry about there. Even Mike Trout used to strike out a bunch.
Some other notable numbers to show was his decent .338 on-base percentage and solid .488 slugging percentage.
As mentioned, his rookie season was comparable to the likes of Cal Ripken Jr. and Eddie Murray. In their respective first full seasons in the big leagues, Ripken smashed 28 homers and drove in 93 runs, while Murray clobbered 27 bombs and drove in a respectable 81 runs. As you can see, those were incredibly comparable to Mancini’s first full season.

Other notables of the all-time greats rookie years were how Murray has a .333 on-base percentage and .470 slugging percentage. Also similar to that of Mancini. Ripken on the other hand, had the worst percentages of them all, compiling a .317 on-base percentage with a .475 slugging percentage.
I am saying what Trey Mancini did last season was comparable to all-time greats, and he should get more recognition for what he did. That is a fantastic feat for a 25-year-old player.
The cool part about this as well is that my Predator Baseball Projections Indicator has gone off with him. It is a tool that says which players will outperform their previous season’s total.
Trey Mancini leads the charge with a Predator Indicator of 1.99; meaning he will outperform his 2017 Predator Wins Above Average by 1.99 in 2018.
In his rookie campaign, he finished with a 1.09 PWAA. Cal Ripken Jr. finished with a 1.22 PWAA in his rookie season back in 1982. Eddie Murray, on the other hand, finished with a 1.16 PWAA in 1977.
Trey Mancini is right there with those great players. Slightly lower, but what a great rookie season.
In 2018, Trey Mancini is projected to have a 3.08 PWAA. This puts him once again in comparison to the likes of the other two players. Apparently, he still has to play and do this, but let’s say he does.
Cal Ripken Jr. followed up his rookie season with a 3.00 PWAA in 1983. We all know what continued from there — Hall of Fame greatness. I know, I know, hold your horses. I am not saying Trey Mancini is going to be a Hall of Fame player, but clearly, the possibility is there if he performs to the projection.
Eddie Murray followed up his rookie season in 1978 posting a 2.14 PWAA. He too went on to make it to the Hall of Fame. Trey Mancini had a great rookie season. Incredibly, he performed up to the standards of some all-time great Baltimore Orioles players.

My Predator Baseball Projections Indicator has alerted me that Trey Mancini might be destined to breakout in 2018. He is a player to watch in 2018 without a doubt. Coming off a great season and entering his prime. It should be fun to watch.
