Texas Rangers: Smart move signing Tim Lincecum?
The Texas Rangers have brought in veteran pitcher Tim Lincecum. Once again, the Rangers show just how committed they are to repairing their pitching system.
The Texas Rangers’ signing of Lincecum is certainly news that makes Rangers fans happy considering the success Lincecum has had in his decorated career. Lincecum is a two-time Cy Young winner, as well as a three-time World Series Champion. He also has two no-hitters as part of his list of accomplishments.
However, Lincecum’s glory days are well behind him. He did not have a job last season. Last time he had a job was with the Los Angeles Angels in 2016. However, it only lasted for three months, and his performance was poor.

The Rangers’ decision of signing Lincecum is certainly a risk, but overall, it ought to be regarded as a difficult but wise decision. While Lincecum is well past his prime, his leadership and expertise ought to be a big help for Alex Claudio, Jose Leclerc, and Keone Kela. He and Colon ought to have a lot of expertise to offer.
It’s unclear if the Lincecum is competing for a job in the bullpen or in the starting rotation. Sources have stated that he may be competing for the closing role. It would indeed be more fitting for him to have a function of a reliever, but he may start a game or two.
If the Rangers do plan to have Lincecum start a few games this season, they’ll have to use him in the bullpen for the first two months of the season. They’ll have to wait and see the results of Lincecum’s performance before making a decision.

It certainly would be great if Lincecum could start a game for Texas and do what he used to do in his days with San Francisco. However, for him to fully return to his old form is honestly entirely out of the question.
