Los Angeles Angels International sensation Shohei Ohtani finds his kryptonite in the Boston Red Sox. Is it time to panic already in the City of Angels?

A game with all sorts of hype, Los Angeles Angels vs. the Boston Red Sox, resulted in a super dud; with a 10-1 route in favor of Boston. Superman, Shohei Ohtani met his match, and kryptonite in the Boston Red Sox last night, going only two innings in last night’s contest — highlighted by a Mookie Betts moonshot home run.

His relief fared much worse, with Luke Bard getting touched up for four home runs ( two by Mookie Betts) in a game that was decided by the third inning.

Mookie Betts homerun off Shohei Ohtani was a no doubt bomb.

The Boston Red Sox are for real, while the Los Angeles Angels were exposed a bit, with a weak scheduled inflating their record ( and numbers) a bit, thus far. The Houston Astros are still the team to beat in the American League West, and we’ll find out for sure next week where the Los Angeles Angels stand in that regard.

More from Call to the Pen

Is it time to panic in the City of Angels? Are both the Los Angeles Angels and Shohei Ohtani both flukes? No. Not at all. Los Angeles fans should still feel great about Shohei Ohtani and their 2018 MLB postseason aspirations. Remember, Shoehie Ohtani is a 23-year old rookie. He did not play a lick of Minor League Baseball and it shows.

Most MLB players take their licks at the lower levels, so by the time they are called up to “the Show,” they’ve already taken their lumps and bruises. Shohei Ohtani still has much to learn, and the Boston Red Sox taught him that very lesson the hard way.

Meanwhile, the Los Angeles Angels are a playoff caliber team but have a ways to go before they’re in the same breath as the Boston Red Sox, Houston Astros, Cleveland Indians, or even the surprising New York Mets.

Just days ago, buzz circulated that Shohei Ohtani is the best player EVER. Now, he’s a flop. Honestly, he’s neither.

Shohei Ohtani is an exceptional young talent. But, is he the next Babe Ruth? Not in the slightest. Are the Los Angeles Angels World Series bound? Not quite yet, and that’s okay. They are still fun to watch, and the game of baseball is better off for the recent marriage of Shohei Ohtani and the Los Angeles Angels ( of Anaheim, San Bernardino, Rancho Cucamonga, Temecula, Southern California).
