The Rangers drafted Josh Altmann from small Olivet Nazarine University in the 22nd round of the 2015 draft. With a wide-shouldered frame at 6’3″ tall, plenty saw future power potential, though Altmann had some added natural athleticism that has allowed him to steal 35 bases over his 318 minor league games thus far.

The Rangers had Altmann repeat the Carolina League in 2018 after struggling to realize his power last season. While he hasn’t made good contact, he has tapped into more of his power while keeping a good strikeout rate. On Saturday, Altmann went 3-5 against Winston-Salem with a home run and 3 RBI.

In the 2nd round last summer, the Royals grabbed one of the best “baseball smarts” catchers in the 2017 draft, the son of a college coach in MJ Melendez. Melendez was advanced in his feel for the game and his defense, but his offensive game was reported to be raw coming into pro ball, yet as a 19 year old for all of the 2018 season, he’s already hit 13 home runs in low-A for Lexington. On Saturday, he went 2-4 with a double and a home run with 4 RBI.
