Deal speculating:

While the faithful wait for spring training, they enjoy discussing players they would swap for another team’s stars. But, frequently, exchanges favor the supporter’s club: They are willing to give unwanted regulars for a player to help their hometown nine.

In many trades, an organization acquires a star they can use or need. For instance, the Phillies wanted Jean Segura but can use left-handed reliever Jose Alvarez. Translation: They needed a .300 hitter, while another southpaw in the relief corps is a welcome addition..

When you do research, Double D, you realize the nuggets there validate your beliefs or offer facts you were unaware of. On the other hand, the opposite is only writing about anything above the surface. To illustrate, the next paragraph features a scribe with a concept.

According to Mark Feinsand of MLB.com, a report by MLB Network insider Ken Rosenthal led to the idea of swapping bad contracts with another franchise in the hopes a change of scenery will pay off for the player and the organization adding him. And he listed five crazy trades (his words) that could happen.

As for his article, the scribe had a decent concept. However, his one-sided exchange against the red pinstripes was Santana for Jacoby Ellsbury as a left fielder and right-handed middle reliever Tommy Kahnle. But penciling Ellsbury into left field didn’t take Nick Williams into consideration.

The swap with the New York Yankees was one of five exchanging players their current teams reportedly no longer wanted Ergo, it’s a decent idea with minimal searching.
