Derek Jeter

We’ll start with the only obvious selection from this class and that’s The Captain himself, Derek Jeter.

Over a 20-year career — all with the New York Yankees — Jeter hit .310 with a .377 on-base percentage. He scored 1,923 runs, had 544 doubles, 3,465 hits, 260 home runs, and 358 stolen bases.

He was the 1996 AL Rookie of the Year, was the World Series MVP in 2000, was selected to 14 All-Star games, won five Gold Gloves, and five Silver Slugger awards.

Jeter went to the playoffs in 16 of his 20 seasons, and he won five World Series titles.

Obviously, there is no question that Jeter will get in next year. The only question is if he will be second player to receive 100 percent of the votes after his teammate Mariano Rivera did it this year.

I think what I will remember most about the Derek Jeter is that even though almost every fan in baseball hated the New York Yankees, almost every fan respected Derek Jeter.

And while he hasn’t had a great start as a part owner with the Miami Marlins, I wouldn’t bet against him.

Go ahead and get that speech ready Jeter, you’re a lock for the 2020 class.
