Power-Hitting MLB Players: 8-11

Khris Davis got a jumpstart on the league, homering in the April 20 season opener played in Tokyo. All but one of Davis’ measured home runs left his bat with an exit velocity exceeding 100 mph, his average home run carry sitting at 399.38 feet. Davis’ most impressive power show came with a 426-footer April 12. Of concern to A’s fans is that he has not homered in the nearly three weeks since that one.

The littlest home run hitter, 5-4 Jose Altuve, has hit nine for the Houston Astros, all of them leaving the bat at speeds in excess of 101 mph. His longest was a prodigious 448 footer smacked April 8 that is the fifth longest home run struck by any of the most frequent sluggers. His average home run carry of 399.67 feet ranks 10th among the 16 leaders.

Cody Bellinger is rapidly gaining attention for his flaming hot start, including a batting average in the .430s and those 14 bombs. Those homers have averaged more than 402 feet in carry, leaving the bat at an average of 104.86 mph.

Christian Yelich ranks eighth in average carry of his home runs, just ahead of Bellinger at 403 feet. Yelich’s longest was a 435 footer on April 18. Yelich has been a particular pest against the division-rival Cardinals, hitting eight of his 14 against them.
