Troy Tulowitzki has been working out at third base, but he still does not seem like the best option at third base.
The Yankees probably would prefer to have an experienced veteran at third base come October, and there are many options via trade.
The obvious option would be Anthony Rendon. I wrote about this a few days ago, and he seems like a great fit for the Yankees.
The Nationals sit 11 games under .500 which is not what anyone was predicting at the start of the season.
There have been contract extension talks between the Nationals front office and Rendon. but I would assume the worse they get, the chance the Nationals keep him is decreasing.
The Nationals are going to fire Dave Martinez before the All-Star Break, and I am surprised he hasn’t already been fired, after the ugly four-game sweep from the New York Mets.
If Aaron Boone got to add Anthony Rendon to their lineup, that would give them a huge advantage over a team like the Red Sox because Rendon consistently hits for average, unlike Rafael Devers.
I believe the Yankees have the best chance at landing Rendon because they have the prospects like Clint Frazier and possibly Greg Bird to trade to the Nationals.
