While the masses continue to obsess (rightfully) over Cody Bellinger and Christian Yelich, Los Angeles Angels star Mike Trout is having his best season ever.

Last night when most East Coasters were sleeping, the Los Angeles Angels and Texas Rangers were playing a baseball game when Mike Trout did this.  For the 43rd time, Mike Trout went deep and reclaimed his lead on top of the Home Run leader board.

Trout’s already set a career-high for dingers with all of September still to go, topping his previous high of 41 in 2015.  Bellinger, Alonso (42), and Yelich (41) are still close behind.

The race down the stretch to send balls into orbit will be an interesting one to follow between these 4.  Ultimately though, the home runs don’t matter.  Mike Trout is again the single most valuable player in all of baseball.

More from Call to the Pen

Trout is blowing away everyone on the WAR leader board and it isn’t close.  With a month to go, Trout has amassed an incredible 8.4 WAR.

To compare, Cody Bellinger is at 6.9, Christian Yelich at 6.7.  Breakout star D’Backs star Ketel Marte is at 6.1 and Alex Bregman is at an even 6.  Last year Mookie Betts had an all-time year and surpassed Trout on the leader board, is at an excellent-but-not-Trout 4.8.

Mike Trout is a freak throughout his entire game.

Trout’s batting line of .293/.436/.651 has been good for an otherworldly 181 wRC+ is tops in MLB.  In CF, Trout has been worth 2 runs by Defensive Runs Saved (DRS) and ranks in the 72nd percentile for Statcast’s Outs Above Average.

Sprint Speed? Trout is in the 95th percentile and one of the fastest players in baseball that allows him to terrorize everyone on the baseballs or patrolling CF.

Mike Trout is the LeBron James of baseball.  Actually no, James, Kawhi Leonard, Tom Brady, and Christiano Ronaldo are the Mike Trout’s of their respective sports.

The shame is the Los Angeles Angels can’t put a contending team around Trout so everyone can bask in his excellence come playoff times.  Baseball allows Trout to get the same amount of ABs per game as Albert Pujols.  Brady touches the ball every snap, James and Leonard will be involved unless it’s a fast break, Ronaldo gets the ball and the opportunity to do what he wants.

Mike Trout is a national treasure and the greatest player of a generation.  Every day, enjoy the greatness at the plate, chasing down the fly balls, on the bases, wherever.  In closing, enjoy the slow-mo of Trouts 43rd dinger.  Breathtaking.
