Here is a look into the life of a baseball agent.
Who is Carlos Perez? Describe him in your own words.
I make every attempt I can to help all those that I can help. Anytime I can help someone I go out of my way to do so, I’ve made my way in this country because of the dedication that I have to my craft. I work tirelessly, my efforts have resulted in 20 players being drafted and I won’t stop or retire until my passion for this dies.
It is common knowledge that you are a fan of the game. How did you make it to the administrative side of baseball?
I started my career in baseball when I arrived in the United States in 2001. I first opened an academy named “Fastball.”
There I got my introduction to training baseball players and managing their careers alongside Iván Davis, Osvaldo Fernandez, Raul Gonzalez, Bienvenido Barrios, Mario Chaoui and Michel Vilanova.
I then served as the commissioner of baseball in the City of Hialeah Gardens from 2002-2006 where about 900 players played in the league and then I was director of parks and recreation in the City of Sweetwater. After doing all that administrative work I then decided to try my hand at being an agent.
What players have you represented in the past and who do you represent in the current?
In the current day I represent Leonardo Taveras, Yusniel Padron and Henry Urrutia. In the big leagues I represented Raul Valdes, Pedro Ciriaco, Yandy Díaz, Yunel Escobar, Edwin Rios and Cesar Valdes .
I also currently represent Tayron Guerrero and I was the person who recruited Jose Quintana and Julio Teheran for Wasserman Sports, where I worked for 12 years. In the current day, I have my own agency named “RI Total Sports” with my partner Daniel Ingianna.
As an agent what services do you offer your clients?
My job is basically to give my clients everything they need to succeed as players. I visit them very often during the season and am in constant contact with them to make sure they have whatever need during the season.
What is your ultimate goal as a representative?
I have only one goal and that is to do everything possible to ensure that my clients have a clear path to the Major Leagues
What was your greatest accomplishment as an MLB agent?
I take great pride in getting Raul Valdes signed with various big league clubs and eventually helping him secure a World Series ring. Guiding his career to the Nippon League and having him an all-star berth there also made me very proud.
Would you like to one day represent clients in Cuba?
I love my country and nothing would give me greater joy than to represent players from the island.
