The Dodgers knocked St. Louis straight into second place in the NL Central with a three-game sweep. On Tuesday, Bellinger’s two-run eighth-inning home run was the difference in a 3-2 victory.
The Dodgers staged another rally Wednesday to win 8-5 in 10 innings. Trailing 4-1 in the bottom of the eighth, they tied it on Bellinger’s ninth-inning single and won in the 10th on Max Muncy’s three-run home run off John Gant.
LA completed the sweep with a 7-3 win Thursday. Justin Turner homered and drove in two runs, and Walker Buehler pitched into the seventh inning.
The Diamondbacks secured a share of first by winning two of three wild games against the Pirates. In the opener, though, the Pirates opened a 15-hit attack against the D-Backs, five of them, coming off the bat of Reynolds.
Arizona got even with a 5-4 Wednesday win thanks to Kole Calhoun’s game-tying ninth-inning home run and Ketel Marte’s walk-off single scoring Starling Marte. On Thursday the D-Backs followed Eduardo Escobar’s 5-RBI game to a 10-3 victory.
The San Diego Padres took two of three at home against Colorado. The Rockies won Monday’s game 4-1 on Nolan Arenado’s home run and three RBIs.
On Tuesday, though, Manny Machado homered twice and Jurickson Profar also homered in an 8-7 decision that wasn’t settled until Kirby Yates silenced an eighth-inning Rockies rally and closed out the side without incident in the ninth.
San Diego finished off the series with a 2-1 victory Thursday behind Garrett Richards and three relievers. Richards held the Rockies to four hits into the sixth inning. Tommy Pham and Profar gave Richards a lead with fourth inning run-producing hits.
