2020 MLB Season: Simulating NL Games, June 26-28
By Bill Felber
In this 2020 MLB season, in the NL East, Atlanta builds its margin.
Atlanta’s domination of the Marlins, coupled with Philadelphia’s problems against the Diamondbacks, helped the Braves build a five-game margin in the NL East, their biggest of the season.
Sean Newcomb set the tone Friday, holding Miami to no runs and two hits into the seventh inning of a 4-0 victory. It was his 14th of the season against five defeats. The Braves relied on their offense for Saturday’s 10-4 victory, getting two home runs and five RBIs from Ronald Acuna Jr.
Felix Hernandez contributed to another shutout Sunday, allowing just two hits over six innings. Johan Camargo homered and drove in three runs as the Braves won 7-0.
David Peralta’s three-run seventh-inning home run put Friday’s game on ice for Arizona. The final was 6-4, Madison Bumgarner running his record to 5-7. Aaron Nola took the loss and fell to 4-6.
Arizona also won Saturday’s game 6-5 in 10 innings when Tom Locastro’s fourth hit – off Ranger Suarez – allowed Nick Ahmed to score. Archie Bradley picked up his 12th save. Philadelphia’s only satisfaction came Sunday when they scored twice in the bottom of the ninth for a 5-4 win. This time Bradley was the goat, allowing a Rhys Hoskins double and an Adam Haseley base hit to tie the game. J.T. Realmuto produced the fly ball that allowed the game-winner to come across.
The two teams finish their four-game wraparound series Monday.
