Alec Bohm could provide the Philadelphia Phillies with the spark they need.

So, it is clear the Phillies needed a spark and Bohm could be what the team needs. Although Segura has been playing 3rd this season, he started his career as a shortstop and has also played second base.

In Bohm’s debut, they moved Segura to second base and he hit second in the order, and Hoskins was out of the lineup.

More from Philadelphia Phillies

Scott Kingery, the young 23-year-old who was also a top prospect once for the Phillies, was the top option for playing second base this year. Veteran Neil Walker was also in the conversation as a second baseman, third basemen, or designated hitter.

But neither of these players have proven themselves as the everyday starter, which would explain the need for another infielder.

With Bohm’s call up, I expect him to play a lot of third base assuming his glove is steady enough at the hot corner. Which would then move Segura to play second base, who is the best option out of the struggling three.

I would also not be surprised if Phil Gosselin takes on an expanded role in the infield somewhere. The utility player could play either second or third base for the Phillies in the infield.

Despite his small sample size of 21 at-bats, he is hitting .429 and an OPS of 1.330.

The hope for the Phillies is that Hoskins and Segura will figure things out so Bohm can just man third base. But if Hoskins continues to struggle, I would not be surprised if Bohm takes over at first base.

This would then open up a spot for Gosselin to play second or third, and Segura would play wherever Gosselin is not at.

This is a great opportunity for Bohm to say the least because so many players are struggling. Not only is it a time for Bohm to prove his worthiness in the big leagues, but he could also get a lot of consistent playing time and help the Phillies turn this ship around.

Let’s hope the Phillies as a whole can turn it around because I thought they would be a contender in the NL East.

For fantasy baseball owners, if Alec Bohm is available in your league, I would recommend adding him, or at least adding him to your watchlist ASAP. He could be a nice stash player in the meantime until he proves himself as a worthy fantasy player.
