New York Yankees

Everyone has been waiting for the New York Yankees to do something this offseason. Maybe Carlos Correa is the plan.

The Yankees had stated that shortstop was their primary focus. Gleyber Torres was moved to second base to free up the spot, leading to the belief that New York was targeting Corey Seager. As general manager Brian Cashman had indicated that the team was ready to spend once more, the expectation was that the Yankees would land one of the top shortstops.

Then the Yankees said they were focusing on other areas first and simply “monitoring” the shortstop market. Seager signed in Texas, as did Marcus Semien, taking two of the top options away. Add in Correa’s comments about the beloved Derek Jeter, and how much the Yankees’ fanbase hated anything related to AstroGate, and it seemed as though Correa would never don the pinstripes.

However, as the Yankees continue to monitor the shortstop market, Correa remains available. Ownership did say that his being part of the 2017 Houston Astros roster would not factor into their determination of whether or not to bring him onboard. And the fanbase is getting impatient for a viable addition – Ender Inciarte is not that.

Carlos Correa did not seem to be an option for the New York Yankees. That may have changed as he remains on the market.
