Baseball fans, can we be honest for a few minutes here? The last few days that have included a rise and fall of emotions as the Major League Baseball lockout entered an MLB-imposed deadline drained us all, and then the first two series of the regular season being canceled was a gut punch on top of that.

We need something, anything, to bring a smile to our face, don’t we? Well, that’s where Christian Yelich of the Milwaukee Brewers is trying to help.

Christian Yelich of the Milwaukee Brewers started a “positivity and sunshine thread” on Twitter to try to get us all out of the MLB lockout funk

Locked out like the rest of his Milwaukee Brewers teammates, Yelich took to Twitter to try to raise the spirits of baseball fans who now know that the 2022 MLB season won’t start until at least early April (after originally having a March 31 Opening Day).

Plenty of people took advantage of Yelich’s opening for good things to be shared on the thread, including even some local baseball and softball highlights.

But then came the plot twist, courtesy of the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV)

Honestly, no one saw that plot twist coming. But, aside from Rob Manfred, nothing that suck the joy out of the day more than a trip to the DMV.

Plot twist or not, one thing that many Brewers and baseball fans have learned over the offseason is that Yelich is becoming more and more of a presence on social media. Just after the start of the New Year, he made his way to TikTok and started a tongue-in-cheek battle with the unknown person who had already claimed Yelich’s name on the platform.

Coming off a season where he posted a second consecutive season of pedestrian numbers at the plate (slashing .248/.362/.373 with nine home runs and 51 RBI), Yelich is likely chomping at the bit to get off social media and return to the diamond. However, until the lockout is over, Brewers fans will keep looking to him to provide some glimmer of light in what has become a very dark offseason.
