2) Texas Rangers

Pulling off a deal within their division would be difficult but the Texas Rangers could really use Frankie Montas in their rotation.

They made some significant moves for their offense but their rotation leaves a lot to be desired. They have Jon Gray …. and a bunch of pitchers that should be fifth starters, at best.

The Rangers do have one of the top 10 farm systems in the game but would they be willing to trade a top prospect for Montas especially when that player(s) will be on a divisional rival for years to come? And will the A’s want to face Montas for (at least) the next two seasons within their division?

3) Los Angeles Angels

Like with the Angels, since the Oakland A’s are in the same division (the AL West), the chance of a deal is more unlikely than any other team outside of the division for just that reason.

However, the Angels have an atrocious starting pitching staff. There’s Shohei Ohtani, Noah Syndergaard (if he’s ever healthy) … and four starters that wouldn’t be on the team if they had a decent rotation (whether it was a five-man rotation or their current six-man rotation).
