4) Chicago Cubs

The Chicago Cubs made a few moves to help their team this offseason, including signing Marcus Stroman and claiming starter Wade Miley off of waivers to help their rotation.

However, their rotation is currently not great and they have had injuries too. Miley is currently on the IL with elbow inflammation as is Alec Mills (strained back) and Adbert Alzolay (strained lat).

Montas would immediately become their ace or second starter (with Stroman occupying the other) with Kyle Hendricks, Justin Steele, and Drew Smyly (at least in the interim) fall in line after that.

5) Los Angeles Dodgers

The Los Angeles Dodgers have a great team and, particularly, a great offense. However, they don’t have a great rotation.

Clayton Kershaw isn’t getting any younger and Andrew Heaney and Tony Gonsolin are not great as four and five starters. In other words, after Walker Buehler and Julio Urías, their rotation is spotty.

Frankie Montas would easily become their #2 or #3 starter after Buehler and, possibly, Urías and provide the team with some more length in their rotation. They also have a top five farm system in the game so they have plenty of prospects that could get a deal done.

6) Colorado Rockies

The strength of the Colorado Rockies is their starting rotation. So why do they need Frankie Montas? More depth.

The Rockies have four starters with an ERA+ of 105 or better but after that, the team has no depth. Even with Jon Gray in their rotation last year, when they had a few injuries in September, they literally usurped all of their Triple-A starters to add Ryan Feltner to their 40-man roster and they flew him from Harrisburg, Pa., (where their Double-A was at the time) to Denver to make the start.

That tells you all you need to know about their depth.

Montas is not one of the top guys in two main things that have led the to the success of their starting rotation (and a rotation that actually pitches better at Coors Field than on the road) but he is fairly good in both aspects so he might be able to succeed at Coors Field as well.

However, they may not have the farm system to get him.
