MLB power rankings: 1 interesting April statistic for all 30 MLB teams
By Kevin Henry
27. Kansas City Royals (last week: 21)
The Royals broke a big drought with a big inning on Saturday night in Seattle. Kansas City had been blanked in 25 of their previous 28 innings at the plate before an outburst against the Mariners. A three-run fifth inning and three-run seventh inning gave them two multiple-run innings in the game, the same number of big innings they had posted in the previous 12 contests combined.
26. Texas Rangers (last week: 28)
It has been another slow start to the season for the Rangers, but that’s something that Texas fans should be used to in recent campaigns. Through 13 games, the 2022 team was 4-9, marking the sixth consecutive season that the Rangers were below .500 through their first 13 contests.
25. Washington Nationals (last week: 22)
Juan Soto continues to show his eye at the plate, leading all MLB batters with 16 walks through his first 17 games of the season. Last season, his 145 walks paced MLB as did his .465 on base percentage. Last season was the second consecutive year that he had led the league in OBP (.490 in the pandemic-shortened 2020 campaign). Can he make it three years in a row this season?
24. Pittsburgh Pirates (last week: 26)
Before Saturday’s 21-0 defeat at the hands of the Chicago Cubs, Pittsburgh’s worst shutout loss came on April 22, 2010, in a 20-0 home loss to the Milwaukee Brewers. When was the last time the Pirates allowed 21 runs in a game? That was all the way back on May 25, 1954, at the Polo Grounds in a 21-6 loss to the New York Giants.
23. Miami Marlins (last week: 25)
Through his first three starts of the season, Miami right-hander Pablo Lopez leads all MLB pitchers with a 0.52 ERA, allowing one run in 17.1 innings pitched. The 26-year-old Lopez has struck out 17 and walked just three while allowing 10 hits and posting a 0.750 WHIP, ranking seventh among all MLB pitchers. Oh, by the way, his current ERA+ sits at 756.
