Archie Bradley

The Los Angeles Angels implosion could be the St. Louis Cardinals’ gain.

It was not that long ago that the Angels had been ten games over .500 and leading their division. It appeared as though their long postseason drought would be coming to an end. Then they lost 12 games in a row, fired their manager, and are battling injuries to key pieces of their lineup. While they are not likely to sell off players under contract for next year or beyond, impending free agents could be on the move.

One such possibility is Archie Bradley. The veteran reliever has served in several different roles over the years, but has typically seen his name called for high leverage situations. As the Cardinals need another arm to help bridge the gap to the eighth and ninth innings, Bradley would be an interesting option.

He could also be a bargain. Bradley had posted a 4.96 ERA in his 16.1 innings heading into Sunday, striking out 12 batters with five walks. However, he has a 3.38 FIP and is generating a career best 57.1% ground ball rate. That type of performance would fit well in St. Louis.
