Let us head back to approximately a week ago. New Era had unveiled their July 4th hats, something that, on the surface, was not a complete affront to fashion. However, they also created a stars and stripes version for the Toronto Blue Jays despite the fact that Toronto is most decidedly not in the United States.
That design led to a great deal of annoyance from Blue Jays fans. As the only team in Major League Baseball from Canada, it appeared as though their location did not matter, they were being made to celebrate a holiday that their country has no part in.
Toronto Blue Jays Fourth of July hats redesigned
Amazingly, New Era and MLB listened. The Blue Jays’ hats have been redesigned to remove the stars from the blue field and to take out the American flag background. Now, the hats are still red and white, but the background strips are all blue.
It makes sense to have that redesign. While the Blue Jays may celebrate Canada Day by wearing their red uniforms, the rest of the league does not. Considering none of the other 29 teams are in Canada, it makes sense that they are not made to wear special uniforms or hats for that celebration.
The same can be said for the Blue Jays as it comes to the Fourth of July. It is not a Canadian holiday, so why would they have those distinct hats? Fortunately, for once, logic prevailed with MLB and New Era, allowing the Blue Jays to have a hat that better represents Toronto and Canada while not being completely out of place during those upcoming games.
The Toronto Blue Jays were given a ridiculous hat for the Fourth of July. At least Major League Baseball and New Era fixed their mistake.
