As September winds down and October is lurking on the horizon, the thoughts of all Major League Baseball fans turn to the MLB playoffs and which team will take home the World Series trophy.

What do you need to know about the 2022 MLB playoffs? We have you covered below.

When do the MLB playoffs start?

The National League and American League Wild Card best-of-three rounds (featuring the third through sixth seeds in each league) are slated to begin on Friday, October 7. The American League and National League Division Series (including the top two seeds in each league) begin on Tuesday, October 11. The National League Championship Series begins on Tuesday, October 18, while the American League Championship Series begins one day later. The World Series is scheduled to begin on Friday, October 28.

How many teams make the MLB playoffs?

12 teams (six from the NL and AL) make the postseason, including the three division champions and three Wild Card teams from each league.

Where to watch the MLB playoffs

The AL and NL Wild Card round will be televised by ESPN. The ALDS and ALCS will be televised by TBS while the NLDS and NLCS will be carried by FOX or FS1.

The World Series, which is scheduled to begin on Friday, October 28, will be televised by FOX.

In the Wild Card round, the 3 seed will host the 6 seed and the 4 seed will host the 5 seed throughout the best-of-three matchup. The winner of the 3 vs. 6 game will move on to play the 2 seed while the 4 vs. 5 game winner will meet the top seed in each league in the Division Series rounds.

From there, the winners of the two Division Series matchups meet in the respective league’s championship series. The winner of the ALCS and NLCS meet in the World Series.
