Did you ever have that one friend who would always seem to try to manipulate the situation and introduce some chaos, even when things weren’t going his or her way? That’s what it feels like right now with rumors that the Minnesota Twins could be back in the middle of the chase for Carlos Correa.

It feels like the Minnesota Twins are being used as leverage for the Carlos Correa contract to be completed by the New York Mets

After swooping in to swipe Correa from under the noses of the San Francisco Giants, there’s no way that the New York Mets allow that to happen to them, right? There’s simply no way that Steve Cohen and Scott Boras can’t come to some kind of agreement about the All-Star shortstop, despite all of the back and forth reportedly happening with his physicals.

Boras doesn’t have the advantage right now when it comes to the Mets-Correa deal, but certainly leaking the possibility that another team (Twins) are now in play to once again have the 28-year-old All-Star back in their lineup could tighten the screws on Cohen and his team. If Boras can get them to think they may suffer the same fate as the Giants, it may be amazing how quickly that reworked contract becomes a reality.

It appears that MLB insider Jim Bowden has already taken the bait about the Twins and a potential Correa reunion.

Call it the Spidey senses going off, but it feels like Boras is playing the part of puppeteer now (something he has been very good at during the last few seasons). The action has died down in Queens, so let’s set a fire somewhere else and suddenly have “at least one other team” enter into the mix for Correa’s services. Let’s also make sure Cohen and Company don’t get too comfortable as they try to figure out a way to make themselves comfortable with a contract.

And what about the Twins? Get ready for fans to get their hopes up for that sliver of a chance that Correa could come back. Hop on the emotional roller coaster, Twins fans. Next stop, the downhill slide when Correa inks with the Mets and it’s clear your franchise was little more than a tool to get the ride going faster.

I’m flashing back to high school when a friend of mine was trying to decide whether to ask a girl to the prom. He waited and waited … until the moment he heard another guy was getting ready to ask her. Suddenly, every worry he had about asking her went out the window. He knew it was a now or never moment, and he hopped on the chance.

Next. The latest MLB rumors around players not named Correa. dark

It feels like Correa is still waiting to be asked to the prom, and Boras is tired of it. Introduce a new suitor (however real it might be) and watch things speed up. Hey, it worked in high school way back in the day, and don’t be surprised if it works for Boras as the biggest drama of the offseason just keeps rolling along.
